Stanford Wine Route


Walker Bay Estate was founded in 2003 with the planting of its first grape vines. Situated in Stanford, the 300ha property has 22ha under vine. Much of the remainder is a protected conservation site also home to forest of Milkwood trees. The wines include Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Pinot noir and Sauvignon blanc. Walker Bay Estate is also home to a pub-style restaurant and the Birkenhead Brewery, named after a British troopship that was wrecked on the nearby coast in 1825. It is one of the oldest surviving microbreweries in South Africa.
