Silvermist was founded in 1984 by architect and property developer Alan Gregory Louw. He took it upon himself to rebuild the ruin to its original footprint and the Louw family of four lived in what is now the Silvermist Hotel, until 1998. The development of Silvermist Estate followed. Silvermist's conversion to organic wine farming has been undertaken by Gregory Brink Louw, with the first vintage being 2010. Invasive alien trees were cleared by hand and the wood reused in the building, wooden decking as well as featured art in the hotel.

The Green Vine at Silvermist is part of the Family Heritage, owned and managed by daughter, Chessa Louw. A passionate individual when it comes to food, and a fully fledged Vegan that enjoys natural flavours, raw foods and visually appetizing dishes. Chessa and her team have been dedicated to tailor making the “Green Vine Experience”. Focusing on abundance, the freshest ingredients, tasty dishes, all whilst keeping the menu vegan and vegetarian friendly.
