Saxenburg Wine Estate

Stellenbosch Wine Routes

Saxenburg farm on the Polkadraai Road was officially proclaimed in 1693 and granted to German immigrant Joachim Sax. The manor house was built in 1701. A quarry company acquired the property in the 1980s, but mining rights were never granted. In 1989, its wine history was resurrected when Swiss couple Adrian and Birgit Bührer acquired it and set about renovations. Today, Saxenburg's offering includes catered picnics, a grill restaurant and a diverse range of wines includes reds, whites and an MCC sparkling wine.
