Pearl Mountain is a fifth-generation farm owned by the Retief family that dates to the mid-18th century. The plot was originally settled by a blacksmith, Johann Jost Gunterlock, in 1747, just off the wagon trail that meandered along what is today the farm's eastern perimeter. Gunterlock's original buildings now host Blacksmith's Kitchen restaurant and predate the Cape Dutch manor house by almost a century. It has been run as a working farm since 1752. The farm produces two ranges, Retief and Stubborn Man, under the Pearl Mountain label. All the grapes are grown on the farm and are sourced from single block vineyards.
