Jordan Wine Estate

Description

Family-owned Jordan Wine Estate, situated in Stellenbosch, South Africa, the heart of the Cape Winelands, has been transformed to become one of the leading estates in South Africa. Featuring a wine tasting centre, luxury accommodation,  a delicatessen-style bakery and a world-class restaurant where visitors can relax and enjoy fine Cape wines and local Cape fare surrounded by breathtaking views of the vineyards. Jordan Wine Estate boasts spectacular panoramic views of Table Mountain, False Bay and the Stellenbosch Mountains.

Gary and Kathy Jordan have been making award-winning wines since 1993 on their 164 hectare hillside property with a grape growing history going back over 330 years.

Unique by nature’s design, the Jordan slopes face North (where Cabernet Sauvignon excels), South (where Sauvignon Blanc competes with the best in the world), East (where Chardonnay produces Burgundian-like white wines) and West (where the Syrah vineyards enjoy the afternoon sun and gravelly soils). The ancient soils have evolved from 600 million year old Cape granite and range from deep, well-drained clay-loam to gravelly and sandy soils situated on clay. Vineyard elevations are between 150 and 410 meters above sea level.

The Indian Ocean lies 15 kilometres to the South with the Atlantic Ocean lying 24 kilometres to the West, enabling  Jordan Wine Estate to specialise in classic varieties well-suited to the various micro-climates. The state-of-the-art cellar is designed around a gravity flow system using natural cooling with fermentation and aging taking place in underground cellars.

Restaurant

Description
"One of the first signature chef restaurants in the Cape Winelands, the Jordan Restaurant with George Jardine brings top chef George Jardine’s brand of contemporary fare from city to country. The focus on the flavours of locally sourced, seasonal ingredients is evident from his kitchen vegetable and herb garden to wine barrel fish smoker and wood-fired oven. Expect smoky, smouldering country flavours in simple combinations on a contemporary plate – with signature smoked yellowtail, steamed Saldanha mussels, seared ribeye and springbok potroast. The main ingredient is enhanced by smoked garlic, aubergine, fennel, prune or potato puree. A trip to the walk-in cheese room to select your own board of artisanal Cape farm cheeses with preserves and breads rounds off a spectacular meal.
Vintages from Jordan Wine Estate form the cornerstone of the restaurants wine list. The Jordan Restaurant is also a showcase for exclusive vintages of the Jordan Wine Estate Cape Winemakers Guild wines, along with choice wines from other Stellenbosch wineries.
Cool and contemporary, the restaurant features a tranquil terrace with stunning views overlooking the vineyards and lake next to the Jordan cellar and tasting room.
Dinner is a gastronomic experience, providing the opportunity for George and Louise to wow their guests."
