The family-owned estate is perched atop a hillside overlooking the town of Bot River. Until 2000 the land was still covered in wheat fields and a few wandering sheep. A year later, South African Bernhard Heyns acquired it and set up a state-of-the-art cellar, tasting room and restaurant. It produces two ranges, one housing wines of value and approachability, the other a showcase of its best vineyards along with some of South Africa’s top old vineyard sites. Gabriëlskloof also produces olive oil from five different varieties grown, extracted, blended and bottled on the farm.
