Calais was established in 1692, which makes it one of the oldest wine farms in the Daljosafat, Paarl region. The first owner, Jean Manjie - a French Huguenot, named it "Calais" after his hometown in northern France. His enterprise, which was producing only select wines was very successful. In 2006 Calais farm bought Kleinvallei Winery, a privately owned boutique winery. It was the first boutique winery to be established in the Daljosafat valley and specialises in production of Bordeaux style red wines.
